Acceptable organization of information and definitions. It is still missing the most important thing of all - examples. One can finish reading the book and still not know how to write a requirement.The content is really important if you are studying for the CBAP exam so you have no choice but to read it; and although the writing style and organization is an improvement on the Version 2 book (which read like it was written by a child with access to a dictionary of "big words"), it is still too verbose - its as if the writer wants really badly for people to think they're smart.
I teach a university continuing ed course in Business Analysis, using this as the primary text. Students take the course to prepare for the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) exam--or to get our school certificate in the subject matter, so they can show employers they can do this work. What work? Why, the work outlined in the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge!This book will tell you everything you need to know to be an expert Business Analyst. And then you will have to go elsewhere to learn how to do all those things.Some students are disappointed that this book doesn't actually TEACH them how to do a Business Case, for example. It only tells them what their contribution to a Business Case should be, and it tells them what the general elements of a business case are (and identifies techniques useful in developing those elements). Likewise for all the other pieces of a Business Analyst's work.In addition, some students struggle with the model depictions of the work (a diagram showing how one piece relates to another). For some, this is a whole new language. Once you understand what is in the diagram, it makes a great chapter (or section) summary. But it isn't intuitive, unless you have the background necessary to understand the diagram.But if you want to prepare for the IIBA exam, or complete a certificate course in this area, you must come to terms with the BABOK. Accept no substitute. Just don't expect that this book alone will make you an expert Business Analyst in all the areas you must master. It won't. But it will tell you what it is that you need to learn, in a systematic and complete way.
I purchased this to read and review as preparation for taking the CBAP exam. It took all of one paragraph before I found myself using my pencil to proofread and restructure sentences so they actually make sense. This book is not written well at all. The sentences are unnecessarily long and complex. Ideas are conveyed in a rambling way. The book keeps referencing itself which is a huge pet peeve of mine.Aside from being poorly written the book fails to offer any valuable elaboration on any of the techniques it refers to. I found this book basically useless in expanding my understanding of business analysis. The class I took for my education requirement for the CBAP was able to convey all the information from this book into a few excel matrix tables, and that was far more digestible.I hope version 3 will be much better than this becasue the bar is pretty low for improvement. I don't have a lot of confidence in the IIBA, it this is their "Bible"

Just opened book for the first time. Pages ii through iv are almost completely detached from the binding! It is buund with glue that is yellow. I am wondering if the glue is old and list ability to adhere to paper. Need the book now for class so I can’t return it. The content and images are awesome and streamlined, however. I like the large print as well. I hope it doesn’t completely fall apart! If it weren’t coming apart, I would give it a 5 star rating.
THis is a must if you want to practice the art of business analysis. Version 3 is better than version 2 and is better laid out.
Not what I expected. It's more of an outline rather than an in depth how to book.
This book was good in that I could show it to my wife and she now has an idea of what I do for a living. However, while this book explains the basic framework of a BA's responsibilities and outlines tasks we are expected to perform, I was not able to glean many insights into practical help. The book is actually designed to be generalistic intentionally so if you are looking for specific ways to improve as a BA - this book is not it. That said, it's probably worth getting just so you can eventually study for the CBAP.
